Early Days of Comhar Linn: 1981–1992

The foundation of Comhar Linn INTO Credit Union in 1981 marked the beginning of a unique financial cooperative, created by teachers for the benefit of teachers. In these formative years, the credit union was nurtured by the INTO, starting as a small initiative within the teaching community and growing steadily through a commitment to excellence and member service. 
 

During this period, the credit union established its core values of personal service, financial support, and a cooperative spirit. The Board was made up of members from the INTO community, ensuring that the needs of teachers remained at the heart of every decision. Deduction at source was introduced as a key feature, making saving and loan repayments easy and accessible for members.

Modern History of Comhar Linn: 1992–Present

From 1992 onwards, Comhar Linn has evolved into a modern, consumer-driven cooperative, serving over 29,500 members and recognised as one of Ireland’s strongest and most progressive credit unions. We have continued to innovate, introducing new financial products and services tailored to the needs of teachers, always competitive loan rates, current accounts, budget accounts, and digital banking solutions.

The credit union’s commitment to member-focused service, and financial sustainability has remained central to our mission. Successive Boards, have guided the credit union through periods of growth and transformation, always prioritising the well-being of its members.
