Increase your fraud awareness

Dear Members,

In these very unsettling times, Cyber-Crime experts are advising everyone to be aware of the heightened risk of fraud linked to Coronavirus. If you have any queries regarding your account please get in touch with us and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can.

We would also advise members that Comhar Linn will never request your PIN or personal details.

We have shared a few examples that have been detected by the Cyber-Crime security firms, along with some steps on how you can avoid them.

Tax Return Scam

Cyber-Crime Example

An email from the government advising people of a new tax refund programme for dealing with the coronavirus outbreak and asking you to click on a link.

The revenue would never contact you in this manner.

How you can avoid this?

Do not click on the link and delete the mail.

Advertisements via Social Media

Cyber-Crime Example

- Donate Here to Help the Fight

- Click Here for a Cure

The link when opened contains malware that can track your PC and use it for potentially fraudulent activity.

How you can avoid this?

Please be very mindful of emails or clicking on links from an unknown source. Reports from Cyber Security firms are that there are thousands of emails claiming to ‘have a cure’ for the Coronavirus.

Shopping Online

Cyber-Crime Example

The vast majority of online retailers are trustworthy but to protect yourself always look for the ‘https’ at the beginning of the website and the padlock symbol in the browser frame.

How you can avoid this?

Use strong passwords and never reveal them to a third party.
